Excelsior College announces new Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter

The Center for Military Education at Excelsior College announced that Student Veterans of America (SVA) has approved its application to become an SVA Chapter for the College’s military and veteran community.

SVA’s mission is similar to Excelsior’s Center for Military Education in which they look to “provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation.”SVA-Circle-JPEG-1-1024x1024.jpg

Excelsior’s SVA Chapter is now part of a national group of over 1,300 SVA Chapters on college campuses across all 50 states. SVA chapters are student groups that are formed at colleges to provide peer-to-peer networks for veterans, support student success, advocate for student veterans, and provide support with college to career transition. According to the SVA website, “these member chapters are the ‘boots on the ground’ that help veterans reintegrate into campus life and succeed academically.” The Center for Military Education is equally committed to helping students earn a degree or certificate, making their transition back to civilian life easier.

At the national level, SVA serves as an advocate for veteran-related governmental policies, provides scholarships, mentoring, networking, and career transition through partnerships.

“We are very happy to be approved for SVA membership. Those of us who work in the Center for Military Education know a sense of connection and service are important to the military community overall, and vital to veterans transitioning to a civilian environment,” said Carolyn Adamczyk, director of the Lt Col Bryant A Murray Veterans Center at Excelsior College. “The SVA’s flexible structure was created to enable individual chapters to meet their unique military and veteran student needs. Our chapter will be what our students need it to be.”

Excelsior’s SVA Chapter will be coordinated through the Lt Col Bryant A Murray Veterans Center, and will provide new opportunities for expanding the visibility and resources of the Center.

Chapter members will include active members (military, veterans and family members who are Excelsior students), alumni members (Excelsior graduates who are military and veterans) and honorary members (members deemed acceptable by the SVO Officers or designated by Excelsior staff).
