Excelsior’s School of Nursing dean elected to board of directors of American Nurses Association – New York chapter

Dr. Mary Lee Pollard, dean, School of Nursing at Excelsior College

Dr. Mary Lee Pollard, PHD, RN, CNE, dean of the School of Nursing at Excelsior College, was elected this past weekend to the Board of Directors for the American Nurses Association – New York chapter. Pollard took the oath of office on September 26 at the ANA’s annual meeting.

“The ANA – New York chapter represents all nurses throughout the state, so I am humbled by the honor to serve on their behalf and represent their interests,” said Pollard. “The mission of ANA-NY is very important to me and complements the work we do here at Excelsior College with our own School of Nursing.”

Pollard has served as dean of Excelsior’s nursing school – among the largest in the Dr. Mary Lee Pollard, dean, School of Nursing at Excelsior Collegenation – since 2011. In her role, she assures a quality education is provided to approximately 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students across the nation. She also has prior experience serving as a board member and a volunteer nurse within her own community at the Schenectady Free Clinic, providing quality care to over 10,000 uninsured county residents.

Dr. Pollard received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Syracuse University, her master’s degree in nursing at Russell Sage College, and her doctorate in education theory and practice at University at Albany.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) embodies the interests of the nation’s 3.4 million registered nurses (RNs) by providing them the opportunity of membership to ANA directly and other specialty nursing and affiliate organizations. The mission of ANA-NY is to foster the high standards of nursing, promote the professional and educational advancement of nurses and advocate for the welfare of nurses to achieve the outcome of better health for all.
