On April 13, Excelsior College will host its 9th annual Partners in Lifelong Learning event and recognize SEFCU (State Employees Federal Credit Union) and Tobi Saulnier, PhD, for their commitment to community involvement, volunteerism, and lifelong learning.
The annual Excelsior fundraising event, held each April, draws attention to the importance of lifelong learning while funding scholarships for working adult students in need of financial support to complete their degrees. Since its inception in 2008, Partners in Lifelong Learning has raised more than $650,000 benefiting nearly 450 students from the Capital Region and its surrounding areas and recognized the achievements of 48 individuals and organizations.
“The importance of remaining a learner throughout one’s life cannot be overestimated. That’s why Excelsior College is very pleased to recognized Tobi Saulnier and SEFCU as our Partners in Lifelong Learning this year,” said Cathy Kushner, vice president of Institutional Advancement at Excelsior College. “Dr. Saulnier is a preeminent designer of serious games that have transformed learning for people of all ages. Through its Planning and Education Center, SEFCU promotes financially literacy, giving its members the power to make informed decisions around their goals for today and tomorrow.”
SEFCU is one of the largest credit unions in upstate New York. They are not only committed to serving the financial needs of its members, but they’re also firmly committed to helping the community, believing its success is directly linked to the help it provides to others through lifelong learning and volunteerism opportunities.
“We are proud to receive this award from Excelsior College. At SEFCU, we are committed to the concept of life-long learning. Whether through our college scholarship program, financial well-being seminars for all ages, or our investment in the continuing education of our own employees, SEFCU believes that learning is the key to success,” said Michael J. Castellana, president and CEO, SEFCU.
Tobi Saulnier, PhD, is the founder and CEO of 1st Playable Productions LLC, a game development studio whose mission is to make games that will entertain, educate, and leave a positive lasting impression on its users in the community. Saulnier and her organization’s work serves the community through initiatives such as the annual Games in Education Symposium, serving more than 1,000 educators for a little under a decade.
SEFCU and Tobi Saulnier, PhD, will be honored along with two Excelsior College students who benefited from scholarship support on Wednesday, April 13 at the New York State Museum. The event goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $100, although there are other donation levels offered.
